about

A brilliant arrangement by Kiril Stefanov of a traditional Bulgarian song, in compound meter, 7+5

lyrics

A young girl got caught at night in the green forest. She covered her face with a kerchief so no one would recognize her. But wild young fellows met her and caught her. "Raise your kerchief," they said, "so we can see your face." It wasn't a girl, it was the sun, shining brightly. Then the youngest lad spoke up: "Come with me, girl, and let me take you home, to shine on my house and make my mother smile, and for me, little girl, (you'll be) my sweet supper and my soft bed." These are standard phrases use to refer to the future bride.)
