The south German composer, Gregor Aichinger, was a master of high renaissance counterpoint, but also fluent in the Italian polychoral style. We perform three movements from his beautiful four voiced mass, Missa de Beata Virgine - Kyrie, Gloria and Agnus Dei. The vocal parts have a wide range from low bass to high soprano. The writing features very supple counterpoint, frequently using simple rising or falling scale patterns to create wonderfully rich textures.
