about

All of our Georgian songs were taught to us by Ketevan Mindorashvili, director of the Zedashe Ensemble from Sighnaghi in Kakheti in eastern Georgia. We spent the first week of our tour rehearsing in that scenic town, before traveling across Georgia. Dzveli abadelia is one of the wild, highly polyphonic trio songs from Guria in western Georgia where the three seemingly disparate vocal lines magically come together at the cadences. A trio alternates with the rest of the choir, and in each case the top voice features the Georgian style of yodeling called krimanchuli.
