about

Most of these songs were collected by editor Mary Cay Brass in 1976-78 when she was in former Yugoslavia on a Fulbright scholarship. As the songs were already fast disappearing with the rapid industrialization of the 1970s, this collection represents a great treasure. The book includes all of the songs on the CD, with transcriptions, full texts, translations and pronunciation guide.

The CD features twenty-three songs from Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia & Bulgaria, primarily transcribed from village sources; but also included are a few Kutev and Lado arrangements. Songs for women's voices as well as for mixed voices. performed by a brilliant collaboration of teen and adult singers from Village Harmony and Northern Harmony. Very spirited, village style singing with varied voicings, sometimes accompanied by accordion, fiddles and bass.

Published by Northern Harmony Publishing Company, 1994.
