This remarkable CD is a collection of songs written by teenage composers who were singers with the Vermont-based teen music ensemble, Village Harmony, in the 1990s.
The music is hearty, rhythmic, delicate, earthy, mystical, contrapuntal and strikingly original. Some of the pieces are straightforward and uncomplicated, others will take hard work and hours of practice to master. Many of these works will likely become classics of the repertoire, for youth and school choirs, for shape-note and community groups or for kitchen table singing societies.
The recording is from a fabulous one-time collaboration of over fifty singers and instrumentalists from the Village Harmony year group past and present, featuring some of the most exciting voices we've ever sung with.
The Endless Light album is characterized by an impressive range of compositional and singing styles, especially the hard-edged vocals of the New England shape-note tradition.
